This darling little sweater dress is from Femme Luxe and I am so loving this brand y’all.  I have several dresses and they all shipped fast and the quality is amazing and best of all is the price.  Would you believe their sweater dresses’ run less than twenty dollars each.  Many of their dresses’ do and I must say I am so in love with the ones I have that I can’t wait to get more.  I have had more compliments on these dresses’.  They are going to be just perfect for date nights.

Now to get to the blog.  I have been so interested in the history of fashion.  I wish I could go back to school to major in fashion.  Don’t you know when you study something you love it does not even feel like work.  Kind of like blogging.  I used to hate writing papers for school, but put me in front of a computer to talk to other women about the topic of fashion and it all becomes just one big run on sentence.  See what I mean, I was suppose to be over here talking about the history of the sweater.  OK so let’s go!

So let me start by telling you the funniest part.  Did you know that the origin for the sweater was a wool vest or jersey that was worn by fishermen  in the 15th century in Europe to protect them from the cold.  By the 1890’s athletes in the United States took on the idea to produce “sweat” and weight loss.  Yuck!  Who knew?  Since that time in the 1920’s sweaters became fashionable haute couture.  In spite of the name the “sweater”  HA HA HA ! It seems to have done quite well over the years wouldn’t you say?  Sweaters have been worn with beads, ribbons, ties, low necklines, collared, off the shoulder and now the ever so popular sweater dress.  They have been loose fitting, tight fitting and everything in between.   Did you notice this seasons ripped sweater look?  Sweaters are worn by people of every age from babies and children to  teen and adults and  even people of old age.  It is an ageless item.  I guess we all like to be warm.

Here’s a little sweater 101 on different types of sweaters the should be in your closet:

A crew neck-  Circular collared and always a basic.

A V neck-  V opening in the neckline and perfect to wear with that favorite necklace or a scarf.

A Turtleneck- Tight to the neck  and mighty warm I  must say.

A Cardigan- Opens in the front and comes in different styles and lengths.  These are perfect for all seasons to have a little something to throw on over the top of a dress when the weather is chilly. If you are like me and live in the South its freezing with air conditioning year round.  I live in these and have every color in my collection.

A poncho-Goes over the head and makes for a very feminine and fashionable look.

An oversized sweater- a loose fitting baggy sweater that pairs great with some leggings for a casual relaxed look.

A cable knit sweater- criss crossed pattern of knit on the sweater.  These are so warm and never go out of style.

A cashmere sweater- Obviously made of luxurious cashmere and a closet staple for any lady.

A duster- A very long sweater.  Often open in the front.  These are perfect for a long lean look and I love to pair them with jeans and heels.

A fuzzy sweater- fuzzy material and very trendy this season. I have one thats so soft I just want to sit there rubbing my own arm.

A hoodie sweater- One with a hood.  Could be open or closed front.   Perfect to keep you just a bit warmer or cover your head if it snows or rains.

A choker sweater- Choker at the top of a v-neck which is great in place of a necklace.  Saves time too girl!

A bell sleeve sweater- Large open sleeves.  Also a very fun trendy look but be careful wearing when your eating.  I’m just saying!

A sweater dress-  These longer length sweaters look great for a date night, the office or just running around town especially paired with a great pair of boots.  I’m partial to over the knee boots this season.

So there you have it.  I’m sure this is not an all-inclusive list but its a great one.
